let's get into this dr conversation with and you are more than welcome well to as be part of this conversation giving us a call by one on zero eight six nine eight seven triple zero or dropping us an ex at power f m nine eight seven at underscore dr motloung thanks good morning for your time morning tsogo and thanks for inviting me and treating to the listeners as well now the a n c african national the excuse me the african national congress and the umkhonto wesizwe party political party faced off in two different courts this week in the electoral once court of course in bloemfontein where the court dismissed bid to have the a n c's the mk party deregistered a political as party the second time where the two parties were in the durban high court arguments were heard on the case a n c had brought that the party against the mk over its name and logo the a n c is i mean motloung saying here dr that the name and of the logo is part party's legacy and heritage and of these court all battles are coming months just two before we head to the polls know i really you would like to you take dr motloung on the battle between parties these two and the issue let's start with name and logo the you know does n c really have the a you think a good case do in this regard yes i at at think a very basic level of face value the a n c has a legitimate claim to say you are now using mk which is a name and brand that associated is with the a n c this is more like a military wing through struggle the liberation we know and anyone in the when you mention streets mk the first association make they is with the a n c so it is unfair and it is also advantage unfair that you have by you party establishing a on our foundation and then competing with you are us that by default most people who have a link an emotional connection the a n c with will most likely gravitate to voting for you so you make a clear alternative if they don't vote for us and wanted to vote for another political party they most likely come for you as mk because you have that close link with us so i am so i think what they are this is trying to say okay mk is not building from the ground not it is putting in the hard are work so they taking an easy win by appropriated name m this k which is a strong bond with the a n c is an interesting way that you have put it there motloung so dr you know they've also argued the african as national congress that people will confused get at the holes between the two you know parties between the a n c the mk and party and those i mean looking at flags i was think it was looking at them i yesterday and it possibility looks a right those flags away to similar ja they they are similar you see logo on the the mk is with a held high spear you know over the head like if you and the mk party is more to the waste and this is what you hear advocate mpofu is saying the original mk is the old shaka away drawing the spier one this is and these are distinguished marks and it makes a legal case of this this distinguished it means the person should pay to detail attention and then confusion at the element of this is where mk party i think has an upper hand because at the ballot it is not that mk original logo that will be on the ballot paper n c for a it is the a n c flag and a spear and that will know valley in the traditional a n c the proper a n c while the new it will be mk party logo on the balance so these are totally different symbols and will not bring it confusion at a at visible a value like when you look at it you can't confuse the two and with i agree mpofu on that what i think confusion brings which n c is arguing is an emotional maybe gabon it's a that voter as a you come in and you'll see m k here and you see as well a n c then you are conflicted um if you have not if really made a choice cory who are you voting for that's mk where the country that mk is presenting yet zuma when was speaking around launching the period of this he made a proper distinguished thing argument over we here we have the m k and the a n c of ramaphosa now is growing in that argument three we have a new party which is mk whose people are those from within the a c who now feel n that the c a n is no longer the vehicle of liberation if you want to use muslim was when he in the a n c is no longer the same a n c see so we there is mainly that emotional tension will be presented that to the voter but not confusion based on logos on because the ballot paper this will be totally two different logos and you know he suffered quite the blow the former president jacob zuma i e yesterday when the c said that his face be on the ballot cannot paper yeah it's a matter it's i'm saying is it a or not blow i don't know why he did not prevent his people in the umkhonto party wesizwe from placing his his name list because on the he i think is somebody should understand who the the merits of him being a candidate for the legislature he think already i he already understood and i think he did not even have intention ja he should be a representative but he was using his clout to really bolster the image m k of the as as a campaigning force think that's i why he brings i us session but don't think he had an ambition to be in the legislature again so thinking of it as a blow i don't think necessarily that it's but what these things c i e is standing firm on its regulations that the constitution so provides candidate as to who the in the legislature should be and then they are they are keeping true to that and they are not really succumbing pressure to the we've had previously one of the spokespersons or officials m k who was threatening if or if if mk is not on ballot the we're gonna have a problem if is not put zuma in we're gonna problem have a so he was using very violent language in a sense so threatening violence but i don't think zuma personally had any imagination it it will be possible for him to return to the legislature again then and so when we look at this battle right two between the parties it seems for it seems i think some people that that it's a little late the a n c could these matters have raised ahead of time while december back in do you think that the mk party will also have an effect on the n c's a outcome at the polls especially kzn in ja it is late in two in the cases the one in bloemfontein the one in durban you hear the representatives i'm really making this claim over a n c on slapped the on the ball and they really neglected the fundamentals and to comply with regulations the appeal so they cannot make a case now and to speak of the impact is it definitely mk as it emerged it also become a surprise in the public o it is here and then a n c looks like even its members were surprised and see really how zuma stood firm and despite from calls the public who dispel this guy because he's he's no longer somehow his desk campaigning a n c now expelled him from movement the a n c has been reluctant to do that but has managed to expect other people who align with it councillors we see more leaving a n c joining m k people who are senior in government during tenure zuma's are now living a n c joining mk and that is the proper impact this will sway and the the the camps the a within n c like i said earlier they put a difference in terms of ideological or political commitment of a mk originally a tool as liberation is being resuscitated now because it has been suppressed during ramaphosa's tenure it has really been stifled others it was disbanded will tell you so they resuscitate it a methula as revolution or that liberal commitment radical of we are committed to transforming society is something which n c has forsaking will and that put a tension within members and those who feel c like ja man these are telling the truth guys n c longer the same is no is no longer committed can no we longer speak as spirit we did the and the you know the excitement zest the of old zimbabwe during zuma longer is no there under ramaphosa and even after ramaphosa when you analyse and think who to lead will come the a n c which direction and to um you feel like i really belong can't here anymore you want to go and run with the m k so that will take the votes n c away from the a and you talk about k z n which is now a hotly contested province where a n c m k d a i f p e f f are really presenting their mark they're trying to win it so we see the a n c's gonna lose lots of vote a lot and then of votes maybe they will go f p to i maybe e f f d a so that that was the first speculation mk before now mk is here you feel very we may have votes going to mk i f p and predominantly and e is going to f f lose their d a is now going to the lowest ranks so it makes a k z n a very province interesting that could be out of the ja control the a n c see now we may western cape and kzn being being governed by opposition parties other than a so this will n c be the second province a n where c is not in control interesting times ahead dr motloung interesting times ahead these elections with a huge thank for your time you to you this morning have a lovely weekend further thank you chairperson dr simon motloung he is political studies lecturer at north-west university speaking to us about those battles that happened this week between the a n c and the
