wesizwe party will here this morning if it will participate in the elections come may the twenty ninth the a had asked n c the electoral court sitting in bloemfontein to deregistered the party now the a c claims n the mk party party submitted fraudulent signatures in its initial application to be this registered morning the electoral court is handing down the judgment on this matter our e n c let's go to a senior reporter lindelo masekane who is there for us is so this d day lindelo this that is the day will determine the fate of the mk party in relation to the upcoming elections what ought we to be expecting certainly a so it's big day for the judgement in this particular matter of course we know that going to have a particular it's impact in of whether or terms not the mk party will be able to contest the twenty twenty four general elections and of course we know the mk that party was formed last year and we know that it has been endorsed by former president jacob zuma which seems to have in fact triggered the a n c to petition the courts with regards to its registration and of course the trade mark of the name umkhonto wesizwe now we are outside gauteng the high court and already we some are seeing activity with members as well as supporters of umkhonto wesizwe have come outside of what we are expecting more people to arrive closer to the at which the judgment will given which is nine be a m this morning and of course we know that the arguments in matter were heard last week in bloemfontein but to just give us some analysis of ahead the judgement this morning i am joined by professor andré duvenage from the north university west thank you so much for your time this morning let me just talk to about the political us significance of this application particular court and what the judgment what the of the judgement impact could have good morning sadly yes indeed we have seen since the establishment of the mk party i think september it was when it was formalised but officially its way on around sixteen december last year it created that a lot of political momentum the extent to that the bread first foundation indicated has as the strongest party in n k z in one of the surveys a national and on basis a support of around percent thirteen and this can be a game changer and we know that the same people were responsible that for the violence n in k z and ekurhuleni in june twenty twenty one is part of these structures now i have no doubt in my mind that mk if the party will not be allowed to participate in the election it is definitely going create to conflict and patterns of instability is and that a real concern about the legality the party of there can be questions regard in this we know that the a is claiming n c the m k concept as part of their intellectual goods if you would like to call it that way but i believe they can stood away from the a n c the a n c doesn't have own their rights on that about the the signature problem i cannot see that the a k party cannot mobilise that number of signatures i think so it's going to be core a difficult decision it's going to influence the campaigning electoral and it's definitely going to have impact an on the outcome of the well election as professor do you think the african congress national under s the kind of impact the kind of inroads are that the mk party has made since its inception i doubt have no that they definitely underestimated the impact the park of and basically the party is again changing and going back to the brenthurst of a time survey ago the support the base of a n c dropped to below thirty percent in k z n and nationally stood on it thirty nine percent with party the mk making the big difference here with a percentage support of about thirty eight percent in k z n and thirteen percent nationally this and can absolutely means the difference between an absolute majority on a national level for a n c the and it can mean difficulty a for the a n c control to get over k z n with far reaching implications for a n c political elite is in the province we have already volatility seen the of the situation in kzn conflict with a between the a n c and i f p the and i have no that doubt if necessary the mk party will resort to these type of strategy when it comes to their survival and their participation in politics in terms of the twenty twenty four elections so let's talk about the assertions or speculation around that there could be political there could and where be violence if this party not allowed is to contest these elections doubt there's no that we have already heard that some of the youth leaders say party that if the cannot take part in the election will burn they the country we to the ground and know the evidence of what happened during june twenty twenty one which was properly probably the biggest pattern of violence since nineteen ninety-four to the value of damage something like fifty billion more than three hundred people killed i have and no doubt that when it comes to the position of it needs comes when it to the finding and the implementation of the findings of the zondo commission be people there will who will take the law into their own hands and i can mk read the party within that context so clear my take really on it is for the stability of the election process for fairness the freeness and and outcome of the election i it is important think to allow the mk party to take part in the election but but then they must play according to the democratic rules set forward by the i e c i think that will be the best outcome today if it goes the other way think the potential i for political instability a strong at least scenario of instability will be their thank you so much for your time this morning that is professor andré duvenage from north west university the just giving us some analysis ahead of the judgement which is of expected at course nine a m this morning we and will be applying for court access as the media and if we course are relied of those proceedings we will be bringing to you live them here on e n c a thank you lindelo that's lindelo masekane certainly will be keeping we abreast of developments and keeping there a very busy eye the outcome on what will be it's a after twelve minutes eight o'clock we take you to natal kwazulu now
